SAMSULA, FLORIDA -- The FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Series opens its 14 race season Saturday (Jan. 18) at New Smyrna Speedway with the Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125 sponsored by the Daytona Beach News Journal.

The race is being held in memory of the late Charles "Pete" Orr of Montverde, FL, who succumbed to cancer and pneumonia complications on Nov. 18, 2002. Orr, a Super Late Model racer of over 30 years, won this event four times and recorded his last Orange Blossom victory in 2000.

FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model 2002 Champion Michael Williams won a tie points battle with David Rogers to close the 2002 season. The duo was equal in points. Most wins were the same at none each. Most races attended were also even. Williams would eventually win the Sunbelt title by having the most second place finishes with three. Rogers had two.

Some other 2003 race entries will include Dick Anderson, Barry Willoughby, James Powell, Justin Drawdy, Travis Kittleson and B.J. McLeod.

There will be a practice on Friday, January 17th at New Smyrna Speedway. Qualifying for the Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125 will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18 with racing action starting at 7:30 p.m.

New Smyrna Speedway is located 10 miles south of Daytona between I-4 (Exit 56 East) and I-95 (Exit 84 West) at S.R. 44 and S. R. 415 or south of the Daytona Flea Market on S.R. 415 south to S.R. 44. <pre> FASCAR 2003 SUNBELT SCHEDULE: January 18 New Smyrna Speedway March 15 Bronson Speedway March 29 Citrus County Speedway April 12 USA International Speedway May 20 Orlando Speedworld June 21 USA International Speedway July 2 Ocala Speedway July 3 New Smyrna Speedway Clyde Hart Memorial August 10 Orlando Speedworld September 27&28 Sebring International Raceway October 18 USA International Speedway November 1 Bronson Speedway 1st Leg of Triple Crown November 8 Citrus County Speedway 2nd Leg of Triple Crown November 22 New Smyrna Speedway GOVERNOR'S CUP Final Leg of Triple Crown
