--Son of Nine-Time Bristol Champ Takes First Career Bristol Win--
BRISTOL, TN (September 25, 2004)--Steve Wallace, son of NASCAR legend and nine-time Bristol Motor Speedway winner, Rusty Wallace, grabbed his first career Bristol victory tonight, winning the Food City 150 presented by Frito Lay, in dominant fashion.
Wallace won his heat race and started the UARA-STARS feature event from the 4th position. He took the lead on lap 83 of the 150-lap event and never looked back, opening up as much as a three-second lead at one point. The race, the first-ever late model event at Bristol, offered a $15,000 prize and has quickly become one of the premiere late model events in the country. For the younger Wallace, this win has even more significance.
"This is such an enormous win for us. There are just so many things that make this win really sweet. My family has had so much success here throughout the years and I am really excited to be able to continue our legacy at Bristol. That wreck I had here last month was definitely a bad one, so being able to overcome that and win this race was unbelievable. I don't really know what to say. I'm so excited. I can't believe I've got one of those really cool Bristol trophies to match Dad's."
My guys did a great job on this car and I can't thank them enough. We had a couple of close calls today, but my spotter did an awesome job of keeping me calm through the whole thing. He just kept reminding me to take care of my car: to run it hard when I needed, but to conserve tires when I could. I did just that and it worked out really well. I think some of those other guys wore their tires out early, so we had a lot more left for them at the end.
I have to thank my sponsors. It was awesome to be able to represent Food City and win a race they sponsor. They've helped us out a couple of times; they're really great. Blueflame Authentics came on board with us this week. They're a really cool company and it was really awesome to be able to win for them in such a big race."
The win in tonight's race marks Steve Wallace's fourth top five finish in his last four UARA-STARS series starts. The younger Wallace will return to action next Saturday, October 2nd, as the UARA-STARS series visits Hickory Motor Speedway.
