Steve Francis ready for UDTRA battle in Hagerstown, MD.
Team MOPAR driver stays in midst of heated national championship.
(Ashland, KY-- July 9, 2002) Steve Francis reeled off three straight top-10 runs in United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) action over the holiday weekend as the driver known as the Kentucky Colonel kept the Valvoline/MOPAR Parts Dodge Intrepid in the midst of the most spirited national championship battle in American stock car racing. Francis' 5th place finish in Zanesville, OH on Wednesday (July 3rd) was followed by a 4th place run in Conneaut, OH on Friday before closing out the Independence weekend celebration with a 7th place showing at West Virginia Motor Speedway. With his continued strong performances Francis, in the Rocket Chassis house car, is just 77 points out of first place in the chase for the national title as the tour heads to Hagerstown, MD for an UDTRA sanctioned stop on Saturday night.
Following this week's event at Hagerstown Speedway Francis and crew will head into another triple-header week of action beginning on Friday July 19th at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville, TN with Saturday and Sunday stops to follow in Atlanta and Rome, GA. Francis campaigns the Team MOPAR entry for Dirt Late Model Racing with the Rocket Chassis prepared machine in conjunction with his partnership with Rocket Chassis owner Mark Richards and engines by Gary Stanton Racing Engines. So far during the 2002 season Francis has tallied 18 top-five and 23 top-ten finishes to go with 3 wins and 8 Pole Awards.
