Steve Francis rockets to UDTRA win in Nebraska; Team MOPAR driver narrows gap in national title challenge.
(Ashland, KY-- July 2, 2002) Steve Francis rumbled to another major national victory this past weekend taking the win at Nebraska Raceway Park on Saturday night in the Valvoline/MOPAR Parts Dodge Intrepid. The stop at the Greenwood, NE facility on the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) Midwestern swing marked the 2nd UDTRA sanctioned triumph of the season for Francis in the Rocket Chassis house car. With the victory Francis narrowed the gap on current points leader Rick Eckert in the chase for the national championship as the tour heads to Ohio for a trio of sanctioned events on the UDTRA circuit during the Fourth of July weekend. Prior to his Saturday night victory Francis notched a 5th place finish in the Friday night preliminary event in Nebraska and is currently just 60 points out of the led for the national crown on the top-rated dirt late model touring series.
This week's busy schedule for Steve Francis includes UDTRA stops at Muskingum County Speedway (Zanesville, OH-July 3rd); Raceway 7 (Conneaut, OH-July 5th); and West Virginia Motor Speedway (Parkersburg, WV-July 6th). Francis campaigns the primary Rocket Chassis prepared machine in conjunction with his partnership with Rocket Chassis owner Mark Richards. The Dodge Intrepid R/T is powered by Gary Stanton Racing Engines, so far during the 2002 season Francis has tallied 15 top-five and 21 top-ten finishes to go with 3 wins and 8 Pole Awards.
