Kentucky ace places 2nd in UDTRA Davenport event with 3rd place finish at LaSalle, IL.
(Ashland, KY-- June 21, 2002) Steve Francis continues his successful run across America's Heartland in national dirt late model action during the summer's furious schedule. In his most recent efforts, Francis tallied a 3rd place showing at LaSalle Speedway during Wednesday night's Renegade DirtCar appearance at the quarter-mile facility in Illinois. Francis had scored a runner-up finish just one night prior in the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) stop at Davenport Speedway in Iowa, keeping the driver known as the Kentucky Colonel in the thick of the national championship battle of dirt late model racing. The driver of the Valvoline / MOPAR Parts backed Dodge Intrepid is currently ranked in the 4th position of the national standings just 73 points behind the leading title contender.
This week's results follow another strong run for Francis in the Rocket Chassis prepared machine as Francis brought home a 6th place finish in last Saturday's Renegade DirtCar Racing Series event at KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH. Francis is a former 3-time champion of the Renegade DirtCar tour (formerly known as STARS) and is currently contending to become the first driver in the history of the sport to win national championships under both the UDTRA and Renegade sanctions.
Next on tap for Francis will be a battle for the prestigious title at' The Masters' in a UDTRA sanctioned event at Cedar Lake Speedway near the Twin-Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN where he at the New Richmond, WI oval. Francis' efforts in the primary Rocket Chassis prepared machine in conjunction with his partnership with Rocket Chassis owner Mark Richards is powered by Gary Stanton Racing Engines with backing from MOPAR Parts and The Valvoline Company. So far during the season, in overall competition, Francis has tallied 13 top-five and 20 top-ten finishes to go with his 2 wins and 8 Pole Awards in just 29 starts during the 2002 season.
