Steve Francis, driver of the Valvoline and Mopar sponsored Freeport Recycling Center Rocket Chassis Dodge Intrepid, continued his consistency streak this season by scoring five top-5 and top-10 finishes in seven events at Volusia Speedway Park in both World of Out Laws Late Model Series (WoO) and United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) sanctioned events.
Francis' efforts put the Kentucky Colonel at the forefront of dirt late model racing after securing the first ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory, which came on February 3rd. The win came just days after the two time former Renegade DirtCar Series champion wheeled to double victories in the Early Thaw events at Arizona in the Larry Moring owned Freeport Recycling Center/Moring Disposal sponsored Valvoline Mopar powered Rocket Dodge.
"We are off to a great start this season with three wins and 10 top-five finishes," comments Steve. "In the two events where we finished outside the top-10, we had an ignition problem one night and a flat tire the following night. We rebounded the next two nights with two top-five finishes, so we are off to a very positive start so far this season," states Francis.
After the inaugural WoO events, Francis sits sixth in the WoO Late Model Series championship point standings. Steve is excited about competing this season in the WoO and is committed to chasing the WoO championship.
"It is important for our fans and sponsors to know that we are committed to racing the full WoO schedule this season," states Francis. "We had some solid runs in Florida in both the WoO and UMP events, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season with the WoO. We will also be running the big money events, a few of the WDRL races in Moring's car, and some NARA events," states Steve.
Francis and crew will take the next month to prepare for the busy upcoming season.
"Throughout the next month, we are going to be busy preparing cars for the remainder of the season. Once the summer starts, we will be running the WoO events and some of the UMP Summernational shows. It is important for us to take the time now, regroup after Florida, and be ready for the rest of the season," concluded Francis.
Steve's next event will be the WoO sanctioned events at Atomic Motor Speedway on March 13 and March 14. The last time Francis visited Atomic Motor Speedway was during the 2003 season where Steve finished 7th.
