Oswego, NY It was announced this morning by ISMA president Howie Lane that the proverbial "plug has been pulled" on the 2004 season opener at Star Speedway once again. "Due to circumstances beyond our control and that of Star owner Bob Webber we do not believe that the May 1 ISMA race will be able to take place," said Lane. "Bob is still having some problems up there and we have decided not to wait it out because of the need to get the word out to fans and competitors across the Northeast and Canada. The May 2 event at Seekonk will again this year be the opener for the Lucas Oil-Helping Hands America Super Series." Lane also did not rule out a possible added date at the Epping oval later in the season when things come together at the famed quarter-mile New Hampshire track.
In the meantime, Seekonk Speedway has indicated that all the ISMA supermodified competitors are invited to a full practice day at that Massachusetts oval on Saturday, May 1 from 10 am on. "We hope that as many ISMA car owners and drivers will come Saturday as possible as this will allow us to get some tech and other things done prior to the Sunday racing," Lane commented further. "We are also working on a post-practice get-together for all members in attendance at Seekonk Saturday with some pizzas and beverages. That's in the planning stages right now."
Seekonk's May 2nd 75 lap event will take place Sunday May 2nd with pit gates opening at 8 am and grandstand at 11 am. Warmups for the day begin at 12 noon with the first heat flagged off at 1 pm. Last year's exciting ISMA opener at Seekonk was won by racing legend Bentley Warren and Warren once again should be aboard the Dunigan Racing 25 to defend his win. The race has a rain date of May 23.
