Joey Montgomery earns first win of 2001 at SFCR

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (April 28, 2001) After running well during the first three weeks of the season, Joey Montgomery of Fredericktown finally put it all together and captured his first checkered flag of the season Saturday night at the St. Francois County Raceway. He was not only good, he was dominant in the feature after after taking the lead.
Terry Babb continued his fine season at the St. Francois County Raceway with a strong second place showing and a trophy dash victory. Timmy Montgomery, who had won two of the three previous features, had to settle for third place with Jimmy Moughan fourth in the feature and Robbie Standridge fifth. They were followed by Steve Short, Tommy Worley Jr., Wayne Sternberg, Lowe Cannell and Rod Crabdree.
Joey Montgomery won the first heat race with Babb second. Moughan won the second heat with Steve Zelch Jr. second. Tim Montgomery won the third heat with Standridge second. Jason Keith was the winner of the “B” main with Worley Jr. second and Jay Landolt third.
Domination. Nobody has dominated any class at SFCR in recent years the way Brent Thompson of Farmington has the Modified class this season. So far, four races - four wins. Saturday night Tim Hill stepped up and tried to knock Thompson off his throne, but to no avail. Thompson again was victorious with Hill second, Billy “the Kid” Smith third, Bob Waterhouse fourth and Randy Forster fifth. They were followed by Tim Radford, Mike Crader, Jeremy Stevens, Tony Palmer and Clark Roach.
Hill won the trophy dash with Thompson second. Ryan Gegg was the winner of the first heat with Forster second. Radford won the second heat with Smith second. Thompson won the third heat with Hill second.
In the Hobby Stock class, Kenny “the Hustler” Harris picked up his first feature win of the season. Harris, the 2000 track champion of the class, was closely followed Karl Francis, Randy Forster and Brian Stumbaugh. Jeremy Greenwalt finished in sixth place with Danny Resinger seventh, Doug Savage eighth, Jack Halbert ninth and Mark Howell 10th.
Danny Wood won the first heat race with Brad Mashek second. Kasey Nations captured the second heat with Mayberry second. Francis won the third heat with Harris second. Harris also won the trophy dash with Francis taking second.
There was also a special Cage Kart race with Kasey Burch of Farmington winning the special feature, Matt Dotson finished in second place with Jimmy Bridgeman third, Sam Miller fourth and Tommy Boyd fifth. Burch also won the heat race with Dotson second and Miller third.
Racing action at the St. Francois County Raceway will continue Saturday night with a special $1,000 to win Modified show. The sprints and the hobby stocks will also be racing. It is also Trimtastiks Night at the raceway. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7:30.
