Punta Gorda, Fla. - This coming Saturday night at Charlotte County Speedway, the thundering Late Model Supertrucks of the Myakka Brokers Southern Pro Truck Series will take to the track for the X1R Performance Lubricants Challenge and it is shaping up to be one of the most exciting nights of racing action in quite a while. 75 laps of fender rubbing, tire burning action is on tap as these full size and V-8 powered trucks traverse the 3/8 mile oval at speeds above 100 mph! These ain't your family pickups!
Leading the series into Charlotte County will be 1998 Champion and winner of the first race of the season at Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, Fla., Butch Yoakam of Newport Richie, Fla. in his flying Ford F-150. Leading Rookie of the Year contender and the fast qualifier at the last race, Rusty Dixon of Riverview, Fla. in yet another Ford will once again be on hand to challenge Yoakam and try to improve on his second place finish in Inverness. Leading the bow-tie brigade into Punta Gorda will be drivers like Scott Bramlett of St. Cloud, Fla in his Chevrolet, Fred Wagner of Bradenton, Fla. and yet another of the top Rookie of the Year contenders, Hubert Simmons Jr. of Hudson, Fla.
MOPAR fans will something to cheer about too as the ever popular Mark Manfredi brings his Dodge Ram to the brawl. This DeBary, Fla. driver would like nothing better than to put the Dodge into Victory Lane for the first time after finishing second in the Series Championship without a win in 1998. For Toyota lovers there will be St. Petersburg, Fla. pilot Todd Blevins in his T-100 that was in contention all race long in the last event. Other top competitors such as Bruce Gaskins of Inverness, Fla., Jeff Sloan of Springhill, Fla., Steve Smith of Lakeland, Fla. and Tommy Caveney of Mulberry, Fla. will also be on hand to try and take their first win of the 1999 season.
