Last weekend found Moses at his third ASA Speed Truck Challenge race.
Moses' rendition of his race...
Testing went real well. It was nice to see my times right on par with the other top drivers. When qualifying came around, I made the mistake of going out on stickers and qualified thirteenth. As I asked around about the sticker thing, everybody was like "Dude, you need to scrub those things in like 5 or 6 laps before qualifying." Live and learn I guess.
I got a great start, and moved up a few places. I am still getting used to this "rubbin is racin" attitude. I did some rubbin, and got rubbed, but managed a couple of more spots. At this point (around lap 15) I started to pick up a vibration.
This vibration was the bad kind. You know, the kind that is going to end your race before the checker. Well, not too many laps later the tranny literally exploded. So here is the best part. As the tranny breaks there is a huge crash in turn 4. Well, I have to go through it, but I have no power to the rear wheels, and the bottom of the track is blocked. Stopping is not an option at this point due to the drive shaft puncturing a brake line, so I have to turn up the track, and hope I can coast around it before the 25 other trucks run into the back of me. Luckily I made it unharmed.
So...I am in the rebuilding stage for next weekend's event at Las Vegas. Like I always say..."If it were easy, everybody would be doing it." Nonetheless, I am having a great time out there. I am learning a lot. The racing is very tight, and the competitors are awesome.
Moses will be in Las Vegas for Round Four of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge on May 7th.
