Zoechling continues to impress

Austrian hopeful Christopher Zoechling continues to impress experts and fans. At the free practice sessions for the Speedcar season opener in Dubai, the 20-year-old finished an excellent fourth and is now aiming for more in Friday's first race.

Zoechling once again showed his enormous talent in the free practice sessions for the Speedcar Series season opener in Dubai (December 4/5). The Austrian-born youngster lapped the Dubai Autodrome in 2:07:608 minutes, not only outpacing fellow-countryman Mathias Lauda, but also his own team mate, 1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve.

"My goal was to finish in the top 5. Coming fourth gives me another boost for tomorrow. A podium finish in my first Speedcar race would be a dream come true", Zoechling was all smiles. Team Durango technical director Giorgio Caielli also praised his protege saying: "Of course lap times today are relative and what counts is tomorrow's race. But actually, I believe Chris will even do better in the race."

This sounds even more impressive considering that Zoechling's participation the series came rather incidential. When showing his new team Durango round the Autodrome, Dubai-based Zoechling got the chance to test on of the 620 HP Speedcars racers. Lapping the second best time of the day, the newcomer was given a drive in the highly prestigious championship.

The new season takes off on Friday 3 pm Dubai local time.
