Zoechling hit on the way to first podium

Starting from third after qualifying Dubai-based Christopher Zoechling seemed ready for the podium in Speedcar's season 2 opener. However, the rookie was in second place, when Gianni Morbidelli hit him from behind. Zoechling finished eleventh.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a great start into the race, overtaking Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the first corner and started chasing leader Vitantonio Liuzzi, when his attack was stopped by a safety car phase. After the restart Morbidelli crashed into the youngsters bumper, spinning him into the gravel.

Zoechling returned to the track in ninth and launched a comeback into the points, when Chinese Marchy Lee crashed into him following a too optimistic overtaking manoeuvre. "The second hit from behind was really annoying, because there was enough room for Lee. That was really unnecessary," the Austrian said. Zoechling thanked his team for "gluing the heavily damaged chassis together, so I could at least finish the race."

In the end, the Austrian finished his Speedcar debut race in eleventh place, a lap down from winner Vitantonio Liuzzi, who triumphed ahead of Frentzen and Morbidelli. However, Christopher is ready for revenge saying: "That's racing. Tomorrow is another day and I will show them what real racing means."
