Patience rewards Throckmorton at South Boston Speedway
South Boston, VA--Patience has its own rewards,and it rewarded Scottsburg driver Joey Throckmorton with a $1,000 payday in the season-ending 100-lap Pure Stock race Saturday at South Boston Speedway. Throckmorton actually finished second in the race behind Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., but was awarded first after Watkins was disqualified following a post-race inspection.. Chris Crosby, also of Scottsburg, finished second and Virgilina's Scott Phillips took third, one spot ahead of Chris Rice. Rice, a South Boston native who serves as crew chief for the Stacker 2 Busch Series team, took the pole with a scorching 18.337 time and dominated the majority of the race, before he was penalized for rough driving after making contact with Donald Glass on lap 82, pushing him to the end of the field. Rounding out the top ten were Brent Ferrell, Durham, N.C, fifth, Billy Goble, Ringgold, sixth, Brandon Baker, seventh, Donald Glass, South Boston, eighth, Reid Hodnett, Mebane, N.C., ninth, and Jason Parker, Madison Heights, tenth in a race marred by five cautions.
SMITH LEADS FLAG TO FLAG TO WIN SOUTHERN VINTAGE MODIFIED EVENT
Randy Smith took the pole and never looked back in winning the 50-lap Southern Vintage Modified event. Darryl Lacks qualified second and finished second in the race which was halted twice for cautions. Donnie Lacks, Bill Lacks and Bennie Franklin rounded out the top five. Troy Dowdy took first in the Southern Vintage Limited Division.
JEREMY COOK WINS LEGENDS
Jeremy Cook emerged from the most competitive field of the night to win the Legends Series race Saturday night at South Boston. Cook qualified fourth and took the lead from pole sitter Nick Smith on lap 15 and lost the lead twice more before getting it back for good on lap 45 of the 50-lap race, which featured a total of 11 lead changes among four drivers. Smith finished second, ahead of Duncan Molesworth, Patrick Molesworth and Kevin Yeatts.
