Clanton grabs pole for Textilease 300.

South Boston, Va. (April 13, 2002) -- Joey Clanton continued his amazing hot streak through the early part of the 2002 ASA Racing Series season by winning the pole for tonight's Textilease 300 presented by Little Trees at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway.

Clanton's qualifying time of 15.637 secs. / 92.089 mph., didn't threaten his track record from 2001 of 15.338 secs. / 93.884 mph. It was however, his second consecutive pole this season following a similar effort at Irwindale (CA) Speedway on Saturday, Apr il 6.

The 29-year old third year ASA veteran has earned four poles in just 43 career starts. Last season at the .40-mile oval known as "America's Hometown Track", Clanton led all 300 laps in one of the most singularly dominating performances in the series' 34 pr evious seasons.

Pat Kelly of Rockdale posted the best qualifying of his career with a 15.698 secs. / 91.731 mph lap to secure the outside front row starting position. Mike Garvey of Atlanta, two-time National Champion Gary St. Amant and former National Champion Kevin Cywi nski round out the top five in qualifying.

The Textilease 300 presented by Little Trees will take the green flag tonight at 8 p.m. (EDST). It will be telecast on a tape delay basis at midnight (Eastern) and 11 p.m. (Central).
