SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- With the closing of Southampton Speedway in Capron, Va. last week, South Boston Speedway officials are currently discussing the possibility of hosting some events for the INEX Legends Cars during the remainder of the 2004 racing season.

The Legends Cars competed in three events at Southampton Speedway this season before the track shut down last week.

In those three races, the car count for the events averaged just over 23.

27 Legends Cars lined up for a 40-lap race at Southampton Speedway on April 9. There were 24 cars in the field for a 40-lap event on April 23, and 19 cars competed at the facility in a 25-lap contest on May 7.

"This is something that we are looking into," South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. "For these competitors to have their season over in May must be very disappointing. Hopefully, we will be able to provide them with the opportunity to complete the 2004 season here at South Boston," Rice concluded.
