Late Model Showdown awards richest purse in history of Sunoco Super Series and Southern All Stars.
Pendleton, IN (February 27, 2003) -- American Speed Association as promoters of the Civil War On Wheels 200, an event matching drivers from the Sunoco Super Series and Southern All-Stars Series, are proud to announce the richest purse ever for each series on Saturday, October 18 race at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville (TN).
Over $85,000 in posted awards will be contested during the Civil War on Wheels 200 with that number likely to rise. The event will feature a 40-car starting field, paying $1,000 to start. The race winner will take home a value over $30,000 with minimum purse check of $5,000 and a $25,000 value for the opportunity to compete in the ASA Racing Series season finale with an all expenses paid ride. In addition, the purse includes a bonus for the top-five finishers from each of the competing sanctioning bodies.
For years, the All American 400 late model race held at Nashville Speedway matched the stars from the North versus the stars from the South. It was among the biggest, most anticipated, short track stock car races in the country. The "Civil War on Wheels" concept will be revived in 2003 when ASA matches the Indiana based Sunoco Super Series and Alabama headquartered Southern All- Star Series in a 200-lap race on the eve of the ASA Racing Series season finale at the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville.
The Sunoco Super Series has previously run in companion with ASA, including the 2002 season final event at Winchester Speedway in Indiana. ASA continues to finalize plans for video highlights of the event to air the following day during Speed Channel's live coverage of the ASA Racing Series season finale.
At Nashville, there will be practice sessions on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18. Two rounds of qualifying are slated for Saturday and the evening will conclude with the "Civil War On Wheels 200".
Entry forms will be forwarded to competitors following finalization of all details regarding rules, tires, event schedule, etc. Additional event information will be forth coming and published on www.asaracing.com, www.sunocosuperseries.com and www.southern-allstars.com.
