Thompson, CT: The ISMA championship will have to wait one more week before being decided at Thompson International Speedway and the jitters for Chris Perley and Russ Wood will remain a few more days. With no points issued in the heats, the point gap of 16 between Chris and Russ still stands. Qualifying events were run on a sunny but cold Saturday, but a chilly mist on Sunday morning quickly turned to showers. By 11:30 am it was definitely clear that there would be no racing this day. Thompson International Speedway management was forced to postpone the activities scheduled for the third day of the 30th Annual World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtramart. All events scheduled for Sunday will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2003
Headlining the day's events will be the final point race of the 2003 season for the Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR Touring. Also on the slate will be the season finale for the International Supermodified Series and the Northeastern Midget Association. The Thompson Late Models and Sunoco Modifieds will round out a great day of Auto Racing.
After three ISMA-Lucas Oil heats run Saturday were in the books with wins going to Dave McKnight, Russ Wood and Nokie Fornoro, the lineup as was set. The feature line-up after Saturday's qualifying is as follows, in order from pole back, Joe Petro, Rick Wentworth, Mark Sammut, Nokie Fornoro, Dave McKnight, Randy Ritskes, Joey Payne, Bentley Warren, Mike Ordway, Scott Martel, Chris Perley, Russ Wood, Joe Gosek (Lair 98), Pat Abold, Bobby Santos III, Rod Sauder (Miller 16), Greg Furlong, Eric Shirey, Jamie Letcher, John Payne, Mike Lichty (Lichty 74), Jon Gambuti (Witkum 85), Brad Lichty (48), Jen Chesbro, Randy Wimert, Joey Hawksby, Justin Belfiore, and Lou Cicconi.
Thompson tickets purchased during the weekend will be honored on Saturday. Pit gates open at 10:00 AM with the main grandstand opening at 11:00 AM. Racing will get underway at approximately 2:15 PM.
