VERNON, NY - Central New York DIRT 358 Modified competitor Gus Schmidt Jr. from Liverpool is recovering and doing "much" better following a work-related incident on Thursday November 2.

Schmidt has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital in Syracuse to the Recovery Ward where he will undergo intensive therapy. Gus, known affectionately as "The Heavy Hauler" is walking and talking and doing really well. However, he is still sore from bruises and some continued swelling on his brain, but Gus and the entire Schmidt family are optimistic about the chances for a full recovery.

When Schmidt gets out of the hospital and recovers, there will be a HUGE party at the Euclid Hotel and Restaurant in Clay, a famous restaurant and bar that sponsors Schmidt and others with their racing operations.

In other driver news, other New Utica-Rome Speedway DIRT 358 Modified competitor John Ramsey of Rome was recently in the hospital. However, he is now out of the hospital and is recovering at home from his recent illness and could use some cheering up.
