Jennerstown, PA - Beautiful Jennerstown Pennsylvania was the site of the American Speed Association's sixteenth event of the 2001 season. The 300 lap event took place Sunday afternoon at Jennerstown Speedway. Johnny Sauter and his A.P. Performance team came to the .522 mile oval track determined to win.

Sauter started the event in the 10th position, posting a qualifying lap of 97.616 mph. The A.P. Plasman Group Chevrolet was fast from the drop of the green flag and Johnny worked his way through traffic patiently. By lap 100, he had taken the lead.

The A.P. Plasman Chevy made a total of four stops for tires, but good pit work and small adjustments helped keep the #9 car in the top 5 all day.

"This win was not easy," said crew chief Joe Shear Jr. "The critical key was knowing when to pit and how long to stay out on tires. We chased the race track most of the day, so we kept making minor adjustments and made the car the best we could. It just played into our hands with track position at the end."

The top position changed eleven times among seven drivers, with Johnny taking over for the final time on lap 254. The race was slowed ten times by the caution flag for a total of 61 of the 300 lap race.

Johnny's lead in the ASA overall point standings is now 121 points over 2nd place Gary St. Amant. Sauter will wrap up the rookie title in Minnesota, his lead is now 648 over Mike Cope.

Watch Johnny Sauter in the next ASA event at Minnesota State Fair Speedway (St. Paul), on Monday, September 3rd. The special Labor Day event will take place at 3 pm EST. The TNN broadcast will be tape delayed until 12:30 am on Tuesday, September 4, and will re-air on Saturday, September 8, at 4 pm.
