DOUGLASVILLE, GA - RIS - The Southern All Star 9:1 Late Models were back at Seven Flags Speedway in Douglasville, GA and in a deja vu scenario, Tim Day of Alpharetta, GA dominated the proceedings. Day set the fast time in qualifying and then led every lap of the 40 lap event to capture his second win of the year and $1,500.
Day took the lead at the green flag, and was slowed three times by cautions as he cruised to the win, but there was action behind him, the first incident happening on lap five as Joe Armistead Jr and Larry Kessinger got together coming off turn four and rapped the wall right before the flag stand. Ricky Williams and Gary Hardin were coming fast and in trying to avoid the two car incident they got together and hit the turn one wall . Hardin was transported to the hospital complaining of back pains, but the other drivers emerged from their cars unhurt.
The most spectacular incident of the night happened on lap 28 when the front of Gary Skinner's car erupted in a ball of fire. Skinner, the current points leader, pulled the car to the entrance of pit lane and the flames were quickly extinguished, After taking a quick look at the car, Skinner determined that all that had happened was a break in the power steering hose. He cut that off and returned to the race without losing a lap and recorded a sixth place finish.
Day led a sweep of local cars across the finish line with Steve Seagraves taking second and Joe Armistead Sr in third. Georgia drivers dominated the top five, with Greg Knight of Ackworth and Lamar Haygood of Thomasville rounding out the top five.
