SALEM, Ind. - Ricky Johnson finished 24th in the Tecumseh 300 at Salem Speedway Saturday night after an incident put the No. 22 Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet on the sidelines for several laps. On lap 31, Johnson was hit from behind and spun. He was then tagged by a couple more competitors. Johnson returned to finish the race, completing 209 of the 300 laps.
"During the opening laps I was just biding my time," Johnson said. "A car hit me and spun me around. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but then we got hit a couple more times and that did the most damage to the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet. We bent the rear clip and had a lot of body damage."
The No. 22 Herzog Motorsports crew was able to fix the damaged machine within 80 laps to get Johnson back out to complete the race. "It took a long time to get the car fixed, but the guys did an awesome job," Johnson continued. "The car ran surprisingly well after the accident. It's just unfortunate we had an incident like this when we had a fast car. We'll clean our wounds and head to Toledo next week."
"Ricky was a victim and it's a shame when this happens," Randy Herzog, co-owner of Herzog Motorsports said. "The Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team continues to make the effort into making this a winning team. Someday, we'll catch a break and get that win."
