Ryan Moore earns top-10 finish in ACT Dodge Tour opener.
Epping, NH -- ACT Dodge Tour Rookie of the Year contender Ryan Moore opened his 2002 racing schedule with a sixth place finish Saturday afternoon in the New England Dodge Dealers 100 at Star Speedway. The Scarborough, ME native finished third in his heat race, which would've earned him a ninth starting spot for the feature event. However, due to his rookie status on the tour, he'll have to start in the rear of the field in the feature events for the first two events. "Our car was up to par with the others during the first practice session," said Moore, "The chassis got pretty tight after the tires got heated up but we expected that. We finished in the third spot during our heat race and the anxiety and nervousness subsided a bit."
In the feature event, Moore had his hands full with a select field of seasoned veterans directly in front of him. The first half of the race, Moore was marred in heavy traffic and it began a learning phase for the 2001 Oxford Plains Speedway Champion. "It's going to take all of the drivers awhile to figure out each others driving styles and gain respect," Moore said. "I'm racing on the ACT Dodge Tour to learn, run different tracks, be competitive, represent our sponsors in a professional manner and put on a good show for the race fans."
Moore fought with some of the best in the final laps to move into the top-10, learning more and more about the race surface at Star and his competitors. "There was a lot of race rubbing going on out there, but you expect that on a tight ¼ mile track," said Moore. "In the later stages of the race, you've got to work hard to hold your position and even harder to take one from the guy in front of you."
"The team is definitely happy with the outcome this weekend, there's been a lot of hard work over the winter and we were all pretty anxious to get started on a touring series," stated Moore. "I'm looking forward to our next race at Thunder Road Speedbowl in a couple of weeks, that's going to be an exciting race."
The RC Moore/Snyder's of Hanover Chevrolet Monte Carlo will compete in the ACT Dodge Tour's second event, the Merchants Bank Freedom Lynx 150, on Sunday, May 5 at the Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT.
