(Gainesville, GA) Rookie driver Scott Wimmer recorded his first career American Speed Association victory in just his 2nd ASA career start, winning the Discount Auto Parts 300, presented by Jani-King at Lanier National Speedway in Gainesville, GA.

Wimmer, a native of Wausau, WI, drove from third place into the lead on lap 178, passing both Kevin Cywinski and race leader Tim Sauter for what would prove to be the winning pass. Wimmer would pace the final 121 circuits, followed by Georgia veteran Mike Miller and former three time ASA Champion Butch Miller of Michigan.

The win was worth $16,450 of the $198,700 in posted awards. There were four different leaders, with Wimmer leading the most laps.

The event, run under unusually cool and windy conditions, was slowed by a total of 17 times for caution periods.
