WATERLOO, NY - DIRT 358-Modified rookie superstar Matt Sheppard of Waterloo is scheduled to be next week's Southwest Prepaid Driver in the House on the syndicated television show This Week on DIRT.
Sheppard, 18, has recently been the focus of much media attention following his victory in Fulton Speedway's season opener and his second place finish last weekend in a Small Block at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport. During the production of This Week on DIRT, Matt will answer questions from show host Doug Logan, as well as answer questions from his many fans.
Matt is the heavy favorite to be the DIRT 358-Modified rookie of the year, and his accomplishments this early in his rookie season rival the impact created by a young Alan Johnson in the spring of 1974. Currently a freshman engineering student at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Matt ranks right up there with Johnson, and he could very well be on the way to being one of the best DIRT drivers of all-time.
Last season in DIRT Sportsman competition, Sheppard was the Mr. DIRT Sportsman champion, scoring a circuit high 22-victories including wins at five different tracks, including the historic Syracuse Mile on the New York State Fairgrounds during nationally recognized Super DIRT Week. He was the track champion at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, as well as the Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge. The year 2001 only marks the third year in DIRT sanctioned open wheel competition for Sheppard, but he has a total of 29 checkered flags, 28 of them coming in the Sportsman division, and his first 358-Modified win just two weeks ago at Fulton.
Race fans from all over the country are encouraged to send in their questions for Matt, and questions can include anything, especially about the Sunoco Race Fuels 358-Modified Super DIRT Series opener at Utica-Rome Speedway scheduled for this Sunday, plus other general and seasonal items. Sheppard drives the Paine Motorsports/Terrell's Potato Chips No. 9s weekly at the Fulton and Cayuga County Fair Speedways. He will also compete on the grueling 28-race Sunoco Race Fuels 358-Modified Super DIRT Series. Watch This Week on DIRT during the week of May 14 to see rising star Matt Sheppard as the Southwest Prepaid Driver in the House!
