TOLEDO, Ohio - After torrential downpours and flash flood warnings on Saturday and early Sunday, the ASA ACDelco Series outsmarted Mother Nature and dropped the green flag at the Toledo Speedway. Driver Ricky Johnson piloted the No. 22 Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo to an 11th place finish in the Glass City 300 and picked up his seventh top-20 effort of the season.
Johnson struggled with a loose race car for most of the event. The crew adjusted the car each time they pitted, but was never able to get it perfect. "We were never able to get the car set-up just right," Johnson said. "The limited amount of practice hindered us in that aspect. We kept adjusting, but couldn't get it to tighten up enough."
"The guys did an awesome job on the pit stops," Johnson continues. "I can always count on picking up a couple spots when we go into the pits. Overall, it was a decent day. We finished the race, completed all 300 laps, and there isn't any damage to the car."
Stan Herzog, co-owner of the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports entry, was satisfied with Johnson's run. "Ricky ran a decent race. He kept his nose clean and finished the race on the lead lap. A few people in front of us had trouble so we gained a little on them. The team will just keep digging and try again at Jennerstown."
With the rainstorms on Saturday, practice was cut short and qualifying was canceled. The starting line-up was set by current 2000 owner points standings. Johnson and the Herzog Motorsports entry lined up tenth on the grid.
