SUSSEX, Wis. - Ricky Johnson doesn't plan to sing the blues this weekend when the ASA ACDelco Series rolls into Memphis for the Memphis 200 presented by Jani-King. Instead, Johnson hopes he'll be singing praises after rolling his Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet into victory lane.
"Memphis is a good track," Johnson said. "Memphis Motorsports Park is definitely one of the nicest facilities we race on all year. We tested there earlier in the year and I'm anxious to return."
Johnson competed at the ¾-mile facility in 1999, finishing in seventh position. After starting 12th, Johnson endured a tight condition. After pit stops to correct the handling relegated him to 21st place, Johnson steadily moved up through the field to pick up a top-10 finish.
"We had a good run at Memphis last year," Johnson continues. "The experience from last year, along with testing there earlier this year, will help us prepare the set-up for this weekend. The Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team is still looking for our first win. Jimmie (Johnson, a Herzog Motorsports ASA driver in 1999) won his first ASA race at Memphis last year, so hopefully we can pick up our first win there too."
Johnson and the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports team are currently ninth in the ASA Series' points standings, 165 points from the fifth place contender.
