Gainesville, GA - The ASA ACDelco Series "Discount Auto Parts 300 presented by Jani-King" was bitter sweet for Herzog Motorsports driver Ricky Johnson. Johnson collected his first career ASA pole on Friday afternoon, setting a new track record at Lanier National Speedway. Johnson finished the race in 23rd position after a mishap put him behind the wall for 50 laps.

"The No. 22 Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo was fast all weekend," Johnson said. "We accomplished one goal for this season by getting the pole. That's one (goal) of out of the way."

Johnson would get a jump on the field when the green flag waved and go on to lead the first 33 laps. Johnson would remain in the top-10 until pit stops came into play. He would mount his charge back up to the front when an accident developed and he had nowhere to go. "I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time," Johnson explained. "Greg Usher had a problem in front of me. We broke the rack in the left front. The guys did a great job of fixing it and getting me back out there to finish the race. We were fast again once I got back on the track. Too bad we were several laps down."

"On a short track, incidents are going to happen," said Stan Herzog, co-owner of Herzog Motorsports. "Unfortunately we were involved, but Rollie (Christman, crew chief) and the rest of the No. 22 Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team did a great job to repair the car to gain as many laps and positions as we could. Never giving up is what's going to make us a contender this year."
