BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (Sept. 22, 2002) The Racing Association of Mini Stocks (RAMS) held its first-ever awards banquet at Club 67 Steakhouse & Sports Bar and announced the winners of some special awards from the recently completed season.
The 2002 RAMS "Rookie of the Year" was Rusty Voyles of Hillsboro, the "Hard Luck of the Year" award went to Kevin Buckley of Park Hills, the "Sportsman of the Year" award went to Gary Cruse of Farmington and the Driver's Seat's award for "Most Improved Driver" went to Rick Ruch of Perryville.
A special award honoring RAMS association president Jeff Mills was also presented.
2002 RAMS Points champion Jathon Cruse of Farmington received his $600 first place check and huge championship trophy. Plaques were also presented to Marty Boyer (second place), Kenny Harris & Shannon Burch (third place), Keith Buckley (fourth place), Rusty Voyles (fifth place), Rick Ruch (sixth place), Phil Hannah (seventh place), Dave "Wolf" Wofford (eighth place), Bill Nickelson (ninth place) and Nick Payne (tenth place).
Awards to the four corporate sponsors of the RAMS Points Series went to Bail Bonding Associates of Park Hills, Boyer Siding of Potosi, Convenience Barns of Farmington/Desloge and SEMO Motor Speedway. The evening was capped off by the comedy of Bob Ridings and his sound system.
The next meeting of the RAMS will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13th, at Southfork Restaurant in Desloge. The election of new officers for the 2003 season will take place at that time.
