Western Shootout this Weekend!

The fastest cars racing on Race City's high-speed oval track, the Super Stocks of the ACDELCO Late Model Tour, begin their 2002 season with this Saturday's Western Shootout 125.

Trent Seidel of Saskatoon has been the dominant force in the Tour over the last few years winning the last four championships in a row and turning Race City into his own personal playground. This year Seidel faces a renewed challenge by a quite a large group of racers basically every Late Model team of any consequence in Western Canada who have had all they can stand of seeing the back of Seidel's #70 Monte Carlo.

Potential challengers for the 2002 crown come from all three Western provinces. The top Calgary contender has to be Barry Bischoff's A-1 Autobody Pontiac team. Bischoff was second to Seidel last year in points but hasn't won a Tour race in several years.

The top Edmonton-area team in the Tour is the Western RV Pontiac effort of Trevor Emond. Racing out of Leduc, Emond won in Saskatoon last year and would like to take his #17 into the winner's circle in Calgary, too.

Randy Kozek of Kelowna was the 2001 Tour Rookie of the Year, but has years of racing experience in other series that left him with a very strong points finish last season. Kozek could well be a threat to win it all in 2002.

In addition to the ACDELCO Late Model Tour 125, the Super Truck racing series and the Buck$ Auto Parts Claimers are on the card for Saturday night.

SPECTATOR GATES open at 6pm.
STOCK CAR RACING begins at 7pm.
