Mark Owens of Kalispell, MT won the first race of the 2003 ACDelco Late Model Tour Saturday night at Race City Motorsport Park in Calgary. It was Owens' first race on the Race City half-mile and only his second appearance on the Tour.

Owens started 8th and steadily moved forward in the Western Shootout 150 as 2002 Tour champion Trevor Emond of Leduc led much of the first half, closely tracked by Calgary rookie Bob Balazs. Emond's engine failed on lap 87, leaving Balazs on the point. Within a few laps of the lap 92 restart, Owens was in touch with Balazs and on lap 106 the American took the lead.

The two continued to duel right to the finish with Balazs retaking the lead briefly on lap 137 before Owens made the winning pass on lap 141.

The race was run in front of a crowd of 3,569 and featured a field of 23 entrants. Emond was the pole winner with a new track record of 16.66 seconds. Qualifying heats were won by Balazs, Jarrod Johnston of Calgary and Dave Salamandick, also of Calgary. There were five caution flags.
