VERNON, NY - The DIRT Pro Stock division at the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon will have a special 25-lap $600 to win Mr. Pro Stock title event on Sunday September 17. Also scheduled are the ELS Sprint Cars and Slingshots, plus high-paying title races for the Sportsman and Pure Stock divisions. Race time is set for 5pm.
The driver that wins the race will earn the title of Utica-Rome Mr. Pro Stock 2000. Bridgewater's Tom Denton recently won his second consecutive Utica-Rome DIRT Pro Stock Track Championship, and after five feature wins this season and eight last year, he should be in top form for this special high paying event. Along with Denton, other Utica-Rome regulars looking for the big 25-lap win are three time feature winnner Jerry Holmes, one time winner Bret Belden, Jason Rood, Wayne Archer, John Kiskiel, Mike Watkins, lady racer Gerry Newman, and Dave Moyer.
However, track management is expecting in influx of invaders in town for this $600 to win title event, because the race will serve as a good tune up for the ARANY Pro Stock Super DIRT Series event held at Utica-Rome on Friday September 22. Could we see top series regulars such as Tom Kuck, Tom Barron, Jipp Ortiz, T.J. Fitzgibbons, Bill Hallett, and Beamer Guzzardi in action at Utica-Rome? Only time will tell, but it will be to their advantage to try to win the top prize money and get a setup for the Super DIRT Series event.
Fonda Speedway Pro Stock drivers Jeff Patrick, along with former champion Kenny Gates who turned in a third place finish in the last race at Utica-Rome, Mike Fritz, and the 2000 Fonda champion, Rob Noviczski, could be tough in the Mr. Pro Stock event as well. In addition, tough competitor Frank Twing, two time Pro Stock feature winner at Utica-Rome this year, will be back to try to win his third Utica-Rome feature of the season.
Heat lineups will be determined by a draw at the main gate, and the 25-lap Mr. Pro Stock feature will be lined up by a redraw, held after the heat events.
The New Utica-Rome Speedway is a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley, and you can be a part of it as the racing season winds down for 2000. The gates on Sunday September 17 will open at 2pm and racing will begin at a special time of 5pm. The speedway is located just 20 minutes west of Utica on Route 5 in Vernon, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
