Budds Creek, Md., -- The dirt track drivers once again took the night off at Potomac Speedway as the National Motocross was in town. The racing action will resume this Saturday night, June 22nd for the regular show. The mid-season highlight, the running of the annual 100-lap, $5000 to win, Vernon Harris Memorial Budweiser Super Late Model feature will be held the following weekend.
The Vernon Harris Memorial will be comprised of two nights of racing with qualifying on Friday June 28th and racing on Saturday June 29th. Pit gates and grandstand admission open at 5:30 p.m., with racing starting at 7 p.m. All divisions except for the Arby's Hobby Stocks and Chesapeake Web Design Bombers will run time trials on Friday night and then compete in the heat races to determine their starting position for Saturday night's feature. For the Budweiser Super Late Models, each of the heat winners will compete in a dash for position race to determine their starting spot in Saturday's feature.
The Vernon Harris Memorial is the fifth I.T.S.I. Super Late Model race of the year. Defending I.T.S.I. points champion Allen Brannon currently leads the points again this year but is still looking for his first victory. James Adkins Jr. is currently second, 49 points behind Brannon with one I.T.S.I. victory to his credit so far this year. Tim Murphy, Dean Guy, and Darryl Hills round out the top five with all still looking for their first I.T.S.I. win.
