St. Johns, PA . . . . . . . .The racing at Pocono Mountain Speedway had the fans on their feet.

Jim Ciampi of Exeter, PA won the 12-lap Factory Stock feature holding off a hard charging Mike Southerton with Paul Monkoski and Mark Dispirito rounding out the top four.

In an attempt to increase competition and action on the track, management combined the Late Models and Pro Stocks for their 25-lap feature event. Eighteen-year-old hot shoe Barry Gommer made his way through and captured the first ever combination event. Gommer had to endure several late race restarts to hold off Doug Yanders, Larry Fisher and Todd Cooper. Frank Greco was the top finishing Pro Stock finishing in the 5th position. The most exciting action on the track was provided by Frank Greco and Shawn Gallucci battling for the fifth position. In what was the most exciting action also turned into the hard break of the race. While battling for position Shawn Gallucci actually gained the position on Greco and then a caution came out and Shawn was involved causing his hood to be pushed up. He had to go into the pits to make repairs and could never regain the track position with just a few laps remaining.

Bruce Long of Hunlock Creek, PA who took time during intermission to hand out candy to all the fans in the grandstands now is a perfect 5 for 5 in Street Stock features events this year. The finish of the Street Stock race had the fans on their feet. Newcomer Frank Griggs started the race in the 10th position and by lap 7 was in the runner up position. For the next 11 laps Griggs tried inside and outside on Long trying to get position. On the white flag lap Griggs got the preferred inside position going into turn two and Long and Griggs raced side by side. As the two came out of turn four they were racing so hard they were almost sideways as they came to the start finish line. On the outside, by a bumper, Long nudged out Griggs followed by Greg Galena, Chris Purge and Michael Kowalczyk.

Eric Beers of Northampton, PA is now 4 for 5 in the Modified features at Pocono Mountain. Beers not only won the special $2,000 to win 50 Lap Race of Champions Qualifier, he now has a guaranteed spot in the 50th annual Race of Champions. Cal Snyder held the lead for the first 32 laps all the while, Beers who started the race in the 12th position, was slowing working his way through the field. On lap 32 Beers made an inside move on Snyder to grab the lead and hold off Russ Frantz, Tim Santee, C.J. Jones, Mike Adams, John Markovic and Jamie Tomaino. Jamie Tomaino making his first appearance at Pocono Mountain Speedway in 5 years had an interesting day and was happy he had the car in one piece at the end of the evening. Jamie's Day began normal enough; load the car up and head to the track. However on the way the team stopped at a rest area and Jamie noticed the car was not on the back of the open hauler. WHERE DID IT GO? Unknown to the team the car was sitting 10 miles south of their position at a traffic light looking like it was going to turn left. The team reloaded the car and made their way to the track. After fighting stagger issues, former NASCAR Modified Champion, Jamie Tomaino finished 7th and is looking forward to his next visit to Pocono Mountain Speedway this year.
