St. Johns, PA . . . . . . . .Pocono Mountain Speedway has completed its first month of racing for the 2000 season. The first month ended as it began, great racing and great fun for the fans.

Jim Ciampi of Exeter, PA led the 12-lap feature from green to checker and held off Paul Monkoski and Mark Dispirito to capture his third feature win of the season.

Blaine Barry of Bath, PA had to endure several cautions that bunched the Pro Stock field up and gave Frank Greco and Albert Kerns an opportunity to take a shot for the lead. In a statement issued prior to the event, Blaine promised all kids 10 and under that if he won, they could all come down to victory lane and have their picture taken with him. He made good on his promise and next week Blaine Barry will deliver over 30 pictures to all the kids that had the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to get into victory lane. Who knows, maybe in 10 years or so some of those kids will have their own picture taken in the Fairway Chevrolet Victory Lane. The hard break award of the race has to go to Shawn Gallucci who was running on the bumper of Barry until mechanical problems forced him to the pits with 5 laps to go.

Bruce Long of Hunlock Creek, PA is now 4 for 4 in Street Stock features events this year. In almost a carbon copy finish from last week Long had to work his way through the field and hold off challenges from Rich Spaide Jr. and Ron Babula, who took a red eye flight in from Nevada to race his Street Stock.

Barry Callavini of Humbolt, PA paced the Late Model field and pulled into victory lane for the second time this year. While Callavini was pacing the field the action behind him was fast and furious. Larry Fisher who finished 2nd, held off hard charger Doug Yanders and consistent runner Todd Cooper. Barry Gommer had the misfortune of being involved in an early race incident and while one of the fastest cars on the track at the end of the race; he could not make up the lap he had gone down.

Eric Beers of Northampton, PA is now 3 for 4 in the 30 lap Modified features at Pocono Mountain. Beers started the race in the 15th position and by lap 2 was up to 8th and by lap 9 was in the 4th spot. Jim Hauser led the first 17 laps of the race and on Lap 17 Beers made an inside move off a restart and charged into the lead. With 5 laps to go Beers was in the lead holding off Chuck Schartzer, C.J. Jones, Hauser and John Markovic. With two laps to go Schartzer and Jones spun coming out of three and put Hauser back in second. On the ensuing two laps Markovic made an inside move on Hauser to finish second with Gary Wentz and Cal Snyder rounding out the top five See all the same divisions and great action next Sunday, May 14th at 2:00 P.M. Also up on the slate May 14th is the Race of Champions Modified 50 lap $2,000 to win Qualifier.
