St. Johns, PA. . . . The Triple 15's features for the Modifieds at Pocono Mountain Speedway proved to be a very interesting format for racers and fans. Cal Snyder of Drums, PA who brought the field of modifieds around for the green had high hopes of taking the first of the 15 lap races. Snyder jumped out to an early lead until a caution on lap 3 for a spin involving the #97. On the restart Russ Frantz who was hot on the bumper of Snyder moved into the lead, and took the win over John Markovic and Snyder. As fans watched teams working on their cars on the front stretch during the ten minute break, little miss Pocono Mountain Speedway picked the number 9 inverting the top of the field for the next 15 laps. Jerry Woody led the field around to the green, but his lead didn't last long as the Key Industry's # 48 driven by Sean Kehley took the lead on lap 2. Kehley seemed to be well on his way to winning his first feature event at the speedway fell to second as the hard charging 110 of Frantz took the lead on lap 12, Kehley and Tim Santee rounded out the top 3. Russ Frantz who already had 2 wins, seemed to be well on his way of going three for three and getting the $500 bonus posted by the speedway, would have to work a little harder as the number 11 was drawn to invert the field. Ike Iddings who was having one of his worst nights at the speedway after crashing hard in his heat race, led the field to the green. Iddings was on a mission and stormed into the lead over Chris Ammon. Ammon tried everything he could to get around Iddings. But after all the misfortune there was no stopping Iddings as he went on to take win over Ammon, and Barry "Kid Rock" Baran. Heat race winners were Snyder, Jim Hauser, and Russ Frantz. Steve Kolek brought the Street Stock field to the green and led until lap 8 when the 27 of Donny Hartzell passed him going into turn three. Hartzell who seemed to be going on to his first career win at the speedway, fell short as 8 time winner Bruce Long moved into the lead on lap 14. Long went on to take the win, but it was short lived. In post race inspection, the winner, second place car of Hartzell, third place Barry Callavini and fourth place Chris Burge fell short in inspection. Koleck who started on the pole and finished fifth scored his first victory on the 1/3 mile oval, followed by Mike Kowalczuk, and John Tombasco. Heat Races where won by Callavini, and Long. The wild class of Factory Stocks was led to the green by Mark Dispirito of Hazleton. Dispirito led until lap 3, when current points leader Jim Ciampi moved into the lead. Ciampi went on to take the win over Paul Monkoski. Ciampi also won the heat race. Jerry "the gas man" Brighthaupt of Drum's, driving the Perky owned 3:16 led the Pro Stock field to the green. Mike Higgins who attempted to pass Brighthaupt several times fell short as Brighthaupt went on to take the win, followed by Higgins, Joe Hoffman, Frank Greco, and Bradley Brown. Brighthaupt who loves to put on a "show" for the fans, threw the checkered flag from his car on the victory lap and displayed his trademark skull and crossbones flag from his car. Brighthaupt continued to give the fans their money's worth as he spun his car in circles doing donuts on the track. Joe Hoffman and Brian Davis won the heat races. Be on hand this Saturday night at 6pm as all five divisions will be on hand at the speedway, coming Saturday Aug. 12th will be the American Race Trucks making their final appearance at the speedway.
