St. Johns, PA. . . . Pocono Mountain Speedway opened up the season with Qualifying Day on Sunday, April 1st. Northampton, PA, NASCAR Modified Driver Eric Beers began the 2001 season in the same fashion as he finished the 2000 season in which he won 13 races by capturing the fast time. This leads up to Pocono Mountain's Opening Day on Sunday, April 8th at 2:00 P.M. Following Eric in Time were Russ Frantz, Chris Ammon, Cal Snyder, John Markovic, Adam Horwith, Mike Adams, Jason Trinchere, Billy Swartz, and rounding out the top ten was Tommy Farrell.
Paul KoehlerJr.,led the Late Models in time followed by Dean Kline III, Phil De Franco and Mike Radocha, Jr.. Rick Collins in a former Flemington Speedway Truck lead the Pro Stocks in time followed by Frank Reakes less than a 100th of a second behind. Alan Decker, Blain Barry and Chris Hamilton rounded out the top five. Street Stock were lead by Scott Meckes and Robert Fink. The Factory Stocks had the closest battle as Shaun Burd and Mark Corbisiero finished one and two in the qualifying. The Legends enjoyed their return to Pocono Mountain Speedway with George Abt and Rick Haring leading the pack.
All of today's actions leads up to Opening Day next Sunday at 2:00 P.M. when all these division will be on the track. Don't miss the Northeast's first Asphalt race when the Mighty Modifieds Late Models, Street Stock, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks and Legend cars will be in action. The day will kick off with consolation Races for all those cars that did not qualify today and for the cars that were unable to make it for Qualifying Day.
