New Egypt, NJ (July 29) -- Returning to action after a rollover in his qualifying heat, Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch came from the back to the front in quick fashion to capture his 10th Modified feature win of the season on Art's Radiator Night at New Egypt Speedway Saturday night.

"Hopefully, this was a tuneup for Wednesday," said Pauch, referring to the track's big-money Super DIRT Series special that will attract all the region's big guns on August 2.

In the 30-lap Modified event, Bob Drayton made his presence known right away, throttling to the lead by lap 4. As Drayton made hay up front, Pauch picked his way through the competition, stealing into second on a lap 10 restart. Drayton did a valiant job defending his turf with Pauch pulling out his considerable arsenal to unseat the leader. It was a side-by-side show for the fans until the defending division champ made an inside move that stuck on lap 15, and Pauch was gone, gone, gone. Rick Grosso Jr. looked like he had something for Pauch in the late stages, until he slowed and took it pitside. Pauch notched number 10, with Drayton, Mark Bitner, Bob Worthington and Kenny Brightbill in tow.

Bound Brook, NJ's Rich Scagliotta scored his second Sportsman division win of the year, leading from lap 2 through to the checker. Scagliotta survived several cautions and a challenge from Mike Toth for the win. Behind Scagliotta and Toth at the line were Mike Lyons, Brien Ely and Ryan Godown.

Evan Berardi of Blauvelt, NY, scored his first career win in the first Street Stock event, a makeup race from June 17. Berardi picked up the lead in the late going after the front-running cars of Bill Gerber and Joe Mongeau made contact and spun. Kory Fleming, Steve Mongiello, Billy Bauer and Kim Cooke followed Berardi to the stripe. In the regularly scheduled Street Stock race, Flemington, NJ's Billy Bauer scored his fifth win of the season. Bauer was chased to the finish by Mongeau, Pat Conaway, Berardi and Gerber.

Winners of the OfficeMates 5 of Englewood Cliffs Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature event were Pauch (Mods, 15.384), Scagliotta (Sportsman, 15.765) and Gerber and Bauer (Street Stock, 17.309 and 17.713 respectively).

Art's Radiator of Flemington, NJ, presented racing radiators to specially selected finishers in each main event. Lucky winners were Willie Osmun (Modified), Brien Ely (Sportsman) and Steve Mongiello (Street Stock).

This Saturday, August 5, Cream Ridge Golf Club presents Banner Night at New Egypt Speedway, featuring a bill of Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks, a golf-themed night of fun and prizes for the fans, and a Hole-In-One putting contest for the drivers. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4, and kids 6 and under are free. For more information, call the track office at (609) 758-1900.
