Path Valley Strictly Stock Wins to Campbell, Keller and Fleming
Spring Run PA__ The front row was a very good place to start the features, all three winners agreed Saturday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park.
Strictly Stock V-8 winner Jerry Fleming of St. Thomas explained, "Out in front I didn't have to worry about rookies and reckless racers."
Veteran Rob Keller of Shippensburg who raced a V-8 to several victories in past seasons won for the first time in the six cylinders, and in four-cylinder action Mark Campbell of Blairs Mills won his first of the season.
Fleming opened the show with Dustin Pietrak right behind him until lap 17 when Joe Daywalt passed for second. Bruce Ginther Jr. who won the last V-8 Strictly Stock feature was handicapped to start 12 and he worked his way into third on a final lap restart. Pietrak was left in fourth place and David Kitzmiller rounded off the front five. Fleming and Pietrak won the heats. Fleming said this was his ninth win in five seasons and that his kids, Christina and Shane, were his crew.
In his move to six cylinders, Robbie Keller drove as if he still had a V-8 under the hood, as Bobby Elbin of Everett chased him every lap. Elbin stayed within a few lengths, but Keller held a solid lead at the checkered flag. The front five were Keller, Elbin, Jason Ege, Randy Wenger and Jeff Dicken, and Elbin and Keller won the heats.
Mark Campbell said he didn't know who was behind him or how close they were because he was busy with lapped cars. He lapped all but three cars in the field of 20 with his Mitsubishi Eclipse. Scored in the front five were Campbell, Barron Taylor, Eddie Machel, Mark Leedy and Mark Cekovich, and Dakota Hutchinson and Gary Dehart won the heats, only to each lose a wheel in the feature.
The low budget Strictly Stocks, formerly called junkyard or guardrail cars, will return May 21 when a Candy Scramble for the kids is also on the schedule. Gates open at 5 p.m. for Saturday night racing.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown.
