Spring Run, PA_ After three attempts to run in the smooth Path Valley Speedway Park surface Saturday, Two Wheel Promotions had to cancel the racing for the Vintage Cars and three classes of strictly stocks. The stock cars took to the track once for warm-ups, but one of the many passing rainstorms made it too slick to consider racing.
The Vintage Cars will return August 23 for a makeup and regular race, and that is also the next date when the strictly stocks, formerly known as junkyard cars, return.
The minimum budget four-cylinder, six-cylinder and V-8 stock cars race almost every other week at Path Valley, and more than 60 of them were on hand Saturday.
Next Saturday, August 16, the evening program is for two wheelers with a scheduled AMA District 6 race for motorcycles and quads and with the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) on hand for a Regional points race. The Legends Cars will also be at Path Valley for a regular points race.
The Saturday evening races for motorcycles or strictly stocks follow the weekly Saturday afternoon races for karts and four-wheelers and have no relationship with the regular Friday night sprint and stock car races.
Next Friday night, August 15, is Driver Appreciation Night with the popular Most Favorite Driver contest sponsored by Photos by Walt Cox, and in the lineup are eight features including the guest Dwarf Cars and rain make-ups from August 8 for the 600 Sprints and V-8 Street Stocks.
August 22 is Pepsi Night and the rescheduled Public Service Appreciation Night at the Franklin County oval, and August 29 is Coors night. That leads up to the biggest race of the year, the Labor Day Monday All Sprint Nationals, on Sept. 1.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111.
