VERNON, NY -- Steve Paine of Waterloo has never won a Modified feature event at Utica-Rome Speedway. Nonetheless, Paine has got to be considered a heavy favorite for winning the Tracey Road Equipment / Freightliner Selec Trucks 100 this Thursday August 23 at Utica-Rome, which marks the eighteenth race of the twenty-five race Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series.
Paine is the current series points leader heading into the $6,000 to win affair, and he leads all drivers in the win column six victories to date. At Utica-Rome, Paine has finished in second place no less than four different times since 1986, and was last year's runner-up in the first Big Block Modified Super DIRT Series event at the track in 13-years.
Joining Paine this Thursday at Utica-Rome will be the very best names in DIRT Modified racing including former track champions Jack Johnson, Brett Hearn, Dave Lape, and Kenny Tremont as well as top series points drivers Tim McCreadie, Alan Johnson, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller, Doug Hoffman, Pat Ward, and Bob McCreadie. Defending Tracey Road Equipment 100 winner Danny Johnson will also be on hand to continue his recent dominance of Super DIRT Series events over the last three years at the speedway.
Several of Utica-Rome's top 358-Modified teams will be there as well, racing for a qualifying spot for Fulton Speedway's annual Victoria 200 (given to the highest finishing 358-Modified), as well as bonus money for the top four 358-Modifieds. Twenty bonus show up points for the track point standings will be given to every Utica-Rome regular attempting to qualify for the event. The DIRT Pro Stock division will also be in action with a regular track points event.
The gates will open at 4pm, with time trials beginning at 6:45pm and racing taking the green at 7pm. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
