Oswego Speedway Awash For Second Straight Week; Demo Derby Carries Over To June 30
Oswego, NY - Once again persistent rain showers from a stalled front have forced cancellation of the night's racing activities at Oswego Speedway. A 90% chance of rain showers - some heavy at times - was the forecast Saturday with a 50% chance of more showers later in the evening. The stalled front also brought intermittent rain on Friday leaving standing water on the race track and the infield at the Big O. The parking lot already neared the saturation point as rains continued Saturday.
This cancellation moves the Demo Derby to June 30 which will be a joint venture sponsored by Kinney Drugs and Wendy's Restaurants. The main program will see a 50 lapper for supermodifieds, a 25 main for the limiteds and a super stock 20 lap go. In addition, a huge Demo Derby, originally slated for June 23, will end the evening.
With 22 entrants as of Saturday morning, June 23, and at least two to four more anticipated, the Demo Derby will take on a new look. The entrants will be divided into two groups at random and TWO big Demo Derbies will take place simultaneously. Smashin' and crashin' will take place in the first turn to the start-finish line and from the main pit entrance into the fourth turn starting stripe. Infield announcer Norris MacDonald will report on one end's action while the tower announcers will convey the action on the other.
When all is said and done and only one car remains running in each divisions, those drivers will EACH pick up a trophy and a $500 check! Judges will search the debris and examine each vehicle to determine a Worst Overall Wrecked machine from among the two divisions. A check for $200 will go to the driver of the car with that dubious distinction.
The giant fireworks display scheduled for June 30 will be moved to the Saturday, July 7 winged midget and supermodified show.
Admission for June 30 will revert back to the originally announced prices for that date. Adult general admission remains at $13.00, with students and senior citizens $11.00 and kids just $2.00. Gates will open at 4 pm and racing will begin at 6 pm.
