Oswego, NY . . . For the second week in a row, Oswego Speedway is forced to postpone the A&P Auto / Sam's Auto Body Jim Shampine Memorial event until Saturday, June 7th due to inclement weather. Track officials called the event at 6 am so out of state ISMA competitors could avoid the long trek to the famed lakeside oval without a payday.
The time schedule will stay the same with pit gates opening at 10 am, grandstand gates opening at 11 am and the first heat race being flagged off at 2 pm. Over 110 ISMA supers, Oswego supers, limited supers and super stocks are expected to be on hand for the twice postponed Shampine Memorial.
Six time Classic champion Bentley Warren will be behind the wheel of a Paul Dunigan prepared winged super hoping to add yet another feature win in his illustrious career at Oswego. With respect to the memorial event honoring the winningest driver in Oswego Speedway history Warren commented, "Shampine and I came up through the supermodified ranks together in the 60's and I really respected his dedication to the sport. He was fun to run against because you could always race him hard and not worry about getting into trouble."
With the Shampine Memorial being rained out twice, Oswego Speedway has revised its race schedule for the month of June. The new schedule is as follows: Saturday, June 7 - Jim Shampine Memorial, gates open 11 am, race time 2 pm; Saturday, June 14 - Wendy's Kids Event w/ autograph session, gates open 12 noon, race time 2 pm; Saturday, June 21 - Evening Practice Session, gates open 6 pm, warmups 7 pm; Saturday, June 28 - C&B Farm & Garden/Pigger's Liquors Regular event with Demo Derby, gates open 4 pm, race time 6 pm.
According to Oswego's Romey Caruso, "We're trying to preserve our early season schedule the best we can. If we can catch a break in the weather next week we won't lose any events on our 2003 schedule. Cancellation of the Richard Petty Experience at Oswego allowed us to adjust the schedule. We apologize to those who may have a conflict on June 14th, but all of our competitors want to go racing and many of our ardent race fans support the change."
