Heat race win doesn't produce feature result for CARSTAR Monte Carlo
MOSPORT, ONTARIO -- "This place reminds me of an old girlfriend I once had. I liked going to see her, but every time I did, she pissed me off," quipped CARSTAR Monte Carlo driver Russ Bond after round six of the Ontario Pro Challenge Series, where a win in the heat race was the good news and a mechanical problem sidelined the CARSTAR Monte Carlo on the opening lap of the feature. This is the second time in two trips to Mosport Speedway that the CARSTAR Monte Carlo has failed to finish the feature.
"It's really a sickening feeling. We were stupid fast in the heat -- sixth to the lead in two laps, and now, here I am watching the feature from pit lane," Bond said while watching Dennis Thomson win his fourth straight Ontario Pro Challenge Series feature race in a row.
The CARSTAR Monte Carlo dominated the single heat race on the night. Then it, along with all the racecars at the track was on display for the annual 'fan appreciation' night. This is one of the most popular nights for the series because of the interaction with the thousands of fans in attendance. "It is great to see all the fans this series has," Bond said. "One lady said she bet on me in the heat. I asked her how I would do in the feature -- she didn't know! It is really cool to spend over an hour with these fans -- especially the kids. They all bring stuff for us to sign, and you can tell from the look in their eyes that they love this as much as we do."
Even with the disappointing result, the CARSTAR Monte Carlo still sits sixth in points as the season is at the halfway point. "We're by no means out of this championship, and I can assure you that in the second half, Jonak Brothers Racing, the crew, and myself will do all we can to move the CARSTAR/Dupont/Impact Race Products/Mobil1/Inside Track Motorsport News Monte Carlo to the front of the pack each race night." The CARSTAR Monte Carlo was part of the first annual 'Soap it up' for charity car wash at the Mississauga Starplex on July 10th. "It is great to see the effort that CARSTAR put into this event to raise money for charity," driver Russ Bond said. "They really get involved with their local community, and I am very happy that they asked our team to be part of this event."
