VERNON, NY - The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) is currently accepting new memberships and renewals from drivers, car owners, crewmembers, sponsors, race fans, and officials for the 2001-racing season at Utica-Rome Speedway.

"We encourage all of our drivers in all divisions and everyone else involved at Utica-Rome to become NYSSCA members. It is truly a fantastic organization for the betterment of dirt track stock car racing and remembrance of racing's past," said speedway publicist Doug Zupan.

NYSSCA is an excellent organization to help the drivers currently racing at Utica-Rome, Lebanon Valley, Fonda, Devils Bowl, Albany-Saratoga, and Afton Speedways. New additions this year to NYSSCA will be the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways, and also possibly the Can-Am Motorsports Park. NYSSCA needs your support to help award the drivers for sportsmanship and dedication to the sport.

Every NYSSCA driver member receives access to the injured driver's fund ($100 a week payable for 26 weeks), eligibility for NYSSCA awards, a NYSSCA membership card, and a monthly newsletter. Every NYSSCA member track has a safety awards night where cash awards are given to the first NYSSCA member across the line in the feature for every division. This award is contingent on NYSSCA membership in good standing and display of the NYSSCA decal on the racecar.

"Utica-Rome is proud to be a NYSSCA track and are always excited to attend the memorable NYSSCA Awards Banquet every January in Albany," said Zupan.

Just last year at the banquet, fifteen of Utica-Rome's top drivers from the 2000 season were honored, alongside some of the legends of dirt racing, at the prestigious event. In addition, Fonda/Utica-Rome legend Lou Lazzaro was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame before a record crowd on hand. Other drivers from Utica-Rome's past already in the Hall of Fame include the legendary "Rapid Roman" Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Dick Clark, Ed Flemke, Bill Wimble, and "The Champ" Rene Charland.

On Sunday August 19 at Utica-Rome, NYSSCA will hold a special NYSSCA Hall of Fame night, when several of Utica-Rome's greats of the past (to be announced shortly) will be inducted into the NYSSCA Hall of Fame. Along with the special ceremonies will be the 40th anniversary celebration for the speedway plus an Old Timer's Reunion. In addition, NYSSCA will also reward the highest finishing NYSSCA member in the feature events with a bonus $50 for every division.

NYSSCA is not only for drivers, and all members can benefit from this great racing organization. For more information or for a membership form, go to NYSSCA on the web at www.nyssca.com or see NYSSCA track representative John Keegan, Ed and Betty Biittig, or Doug Zupan at the track this summer.
