Mobile, AL - They are coming from Jacksonville and Macon, from Savannah and Lake City, from Valdosta and Augusta, from Swainsboro, Dublin, Louisville, Albany and all points of the compass. The Boys are Back in Town! This weekend at Waycross Motor Speedway, the National Late Model Sportsman Series will present the most competitive racing show in the Southeast as the 1997 Southern Dirt Tour lands in Waycross for the "Walker Jones 75", the tenth stop of the series schedule. Leading the series into Waycross will be points leader Gene Maine of Valdosta, Ricky Brant of Pooler and Wendell Durrance of Gainesville, third in the points and a winner on this track earlier in the season.

The competition will be stiff as this is the home track for "The Blackshear Bandit", Cecil Eunice, Mike Carter and Toby Justice. Eunice is currently fifth in the NLMS points and has two wins under his belt this season, but a win in front of the home town fans is something he would dearly love to have. For Carter the return of the series to Waycross is another chance for him to do as he did earlier in the season, when he set the fast time in qualifying and then won his heat race to take the pole position. Brother Mark won this race a year ago and Mike would like nothing better than to put the Carter name in Victory Lane once again. Justice is an up and coming driver with plenty of talent and a solid ride under him who could put a big notch in his belt with a win on his home ground.

The local drivers will be facing some potent opposition as the red hot "North Georgia Dirt Farmer", Billy Godowns Jr will be on hand, along with the fast rising "Hollywood" Joe Kump and Rookie sensations Henry Carter Jr. and Steve Jones. Other top names from the Tour expected to be on hand include 1996 Champion Ivedent Lloyd, Tracy Walden, Andy Stewart, Robbie Metts, Tracy Mimbs and Everett "Barney" Phillips.

The action gets underway Friday evening with Qualifying and heat races for the National Late Model Sportsman cars as well as action in Stocks, Super Street and Late Model divisions. On Saturday evening there will be consolation races for the NLMS cars and Feature events for all classes, topped off by the "Walker Jones 75" National Late Model Sportsman race.
