LAKE CITY SPEEDWAY HOSTS PAT MITCHUM MEMORIAL 100
Lake City, Fla. - This coming Friday and Saturday nights, March 12 and 13, Lake City Speedway will host the most competitive touring series in the Southeast as the National Late Model Sportsman Series will compete in the 1st Annual Pat Mitchum Memorial 100. “THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN”
The fast 3/8ths mile Lake City Speedway oval will open its 1999 regular season with the stars and cars of the Southern Dirt Tour as it pays tribute to the memory of one of the great men in Florida motorsports, Pat Mitchum who was a well respected member of the Lake City community.
The Pat Mitchum Memorial 100 will be the seventh race of the 1999 season for the Late Model touring series, and after six races there have been five different winner, and all of these will be on hand at Lake City Speedway. 1995 Series Champion Skip Pannell of Albany, Ga. is the only driver to notch two wins in early season action, with victories at Valdosta and Dublin, Ga.. Michael Lloyd of Jacksonville, Fla., Gene Maine of Quitman, Ga., Billy Godowns of Louisville, Ga. and David Browning of Jacksonville, Fla. are the other winners who will be on hand for this event.
In addition to Pannell, there will be three other NLMS Series Champions on hand at Lake City, 1996 Champion Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala, Fla. 1997 Champion Maine, and 1998 and Defending Champion Cecil Eunice of Blackshear, Ga. Over 30 race teams are expected to fill the pits for this event with many of the top Late Model drivers in the South coming to Lake City. Johnny Collins of Jacksonville, Fla., Henry Carter of Swainsboro, Ga., Lee Jackson of Brooklet, Ga. Keith Philman of Bell, Fla. Tracy Mimbs of Dublin, Ga. and Wesley Hood from Cowpens, SC. are among the many that will be in action over the weekend.
In addition to the National Late Models, there will be action in the Florida Modified, Hobby Stock and Street Stock classes as well as the ever popular Mini-Sprints. The action gets underway with qualifying for the Late Models and heat Races for all classes on Friday evening and the Mini-Sprint feature event. Gates open at 4 PM. Saturday night will be an all-feature evening with action in all classes including the Pat Mitchum Memorial 100 for the Late Models.
