1st full-time fan supported team announces 2003 plans

Johnstown, Pa. (Dec. 1) Over the past 10 years there have been a number of organizations who have announced their intention to form a "fan supported" race team, and some have even taken to the track with limited success. When Mark Westrick of Fans Motorsports and Tom Granelli of BG Motorsports met, they decided to take things a step further and bring the original concept full circle and provide the fans with the real thing!

A full-time race team that will compete in 2003, with significant support and input from a "fan based membership". This will give fans who have long supported this unique concept a chance to play a significant role in the race team's plans, receive a long list of member benefits, and have a year-long opportunity to root for the team to win races, and make a strong run in the points championship, instead of watching a few limited races from time to time, or just hoping the idea ever reached the point where a team would take the track.

Mark Westrick has had experience in the area of fan supported race teams and is excited about this partnership as it will give the fans what they have always been promised many times before. "When Tom and I met, the first thing we agreed upon was that the same old thing was not going to work. We wanted to create credibility among the membership base by giving our members what they paid for: a real race team. We were also determined to not overreach, and promise the members too much from the start. Our ultimate goal is to maintain this new team, and add a second team in Busch Grand National or the Craftsman Truck Series. We do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past by trying to promise too much, and not delivering."

With that philosophy in mind, Fans Motorsports and BG Motorsports decided to move forward with a plan to operate a team full-time in the American Speed Association (ASA), the # 1 short track racing series in the U. S. (www.asaracing).

Westrick went on to say, "BG Motorsports offers the experience and credibility in a racing organization to be able to deliver to our members what we will promise them. The ASA Series offers a phenomenal opportunity, with a solid full time live TV package, new ownership, and the most exciting short track racing that fans can see anywhere in the country."

BG Motorsports has been in existence since 1995, when they began the first of four very successful seasons in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series. In 2000, BG Motorsports added an ASA team to their organization. The new Fans Motorsports website, due to be launched December 1st, contains pictures and a complete history of BG Motorsports.

The Fans Motorsports Team will also have other sponsorship support from 2 or 3 other sponsors, to be announced over the next 3 to 4 weeks. This will insure that the Fans Motorsports - BG Motorsports partnership in ASA makes a strong run in the championship points and competes for wins on a regular basis. Although the decision on the driver for the Fans Motorsports team is 99% set, the announcement is not expected to be made for another 2 or 3 weeks. BG Motorsports partner Tom Granelli said, "We are in the process of finalizing some sponsors, and the announcement of our ASA driver for 2003 will come after those details are settled. Our driver in ASA has had major success in other touring series, and will be ready to compete successfully in ASA in 2003."

In addition to competing full time in ASA, Fans Motorsports will take part during the year in a variety of other special events. One of those events will be the debut of Fans Motorsports Team at Daytona during Speedweeks 2003. The Fans Motorsports - BG Motorsports partnership will start when the team enters and competes in the season-opener for the 2003 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series on Sunday Feb. 9th, Winston Cup Pole Qualifying Day for the Daytona 500. The last time a BG Motorsports entry competed at Daytona, they captured the Bud Pole Award and lead every lap of the race until a mechanical malfunction ended their day early.

As a part of the kickoff to the season, and this partnership, Fans Motorsports will be running some spectacular sweepstakes for the first 2,000 new members. They include trips to Daytona for the race, trips to Lakeland, Florida for the ASA opener in March, and the chance to win a "real race-ready race car," as well. Details on the " Daytona Experience" and "Off to the Races" Sweepstakes, as well as information on team plans and memberships can be found on the teams website - The team's re designed website was launched December 1st.
