New Egypt, NJ (Dec. 10) -- New Egypt Speedway management has renewed its agreement with McCreary distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, PA, to continue as the exclusive supplier of New Egypt racing tires for the year 2000.
Compounds and pricing for McCreary's American Racer track tire will remain the same. A rear tire for a Modified will cost New Egypt racers $120; Street Stock tires are priced at $115. Pit Stop Tire of Frenchtown, NJ, will again service the speedway.
"I think everyone was happy with this year's track tires, and the amount they kicked into the point fund was substantial," said track owner Rick Grosso, Sr. "We're pleased to have Lias back for a second season."
Trading under the American Racer banner, McCreary was a major contributor to New Egypt's $50,000 all-cash 1999 point fund, which will be distributed at the speedway's lavish awards banquet at Bally's Park Place and Boardwalk in Atlantic City on Saturday, February 5.
Lias Tire President Fred Woodward further underscored the win-win relationship between the track and the tire company. "I think we have one of the best deals around in terms of product, repeatability and what we can do for the track," Woodward stated.
In other news on the tech front, New Egypt's 2000 rule book will be off the presses in early January, slightly altered but with no major rule changes. The highly successful scanner communication system, already mandatory in the Modified and Sportsman ranks, will also be required in the Street Stock division by May 15, 2000. The one-way communication system allows tower officials to provide lineups, instruction and race direction directly to the drivers.
Modifieds with non-ported 358s, as well as Sportsman and Street Stock racers, are encouraged to have their engines sealed in the winter months. Contact New Egypt tech inspector John McCaughey at (610) 982-0400 to make an appointment.
Rule books, pit license applications and New Egypt's 2000 schedule will be available January 14-16 at the Pennzoil Motorsports show in Fort Washington, PA. For further information, call the speedway office at (609) 758-1900.
