Pauch & Hoffman Score In New Egypt Twin 20s
New Egypt, NJ (April 17) -- In two wild, down-to-the-wire main events, Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch and Allentown, PA's Doug Hoffman took top honors in Saturday night's Twin 20s for Modifieds at the New Egypt Speedway. It was Pauch's second win of the season, and Hoffman's career-first checkered flag at the Central Jersey speedway.
"Every time we come out here, we try something different with the chassis," Pauch related in Victory Lane. Pauch dedicated his win to Art Liedl, a former car owner who passed away last Sunday.
Both features saw Pauch, Hoffman and last week's winner Kenny Brightbill in heated battle. On Pauch's tail at the end of the first 20-lap main were Brightbill, Hoffman, Tom Carberry and Roger Laureno. The second 20 found Laureno pressing Hoffman in the closing laps after Brightbill and Pauch tangled, putting them to the rear on a late restart. Finishing behind Hoffman and Laureno were Tim Tanner Jr., Paul Rochelle III and Eddie Bohn.
"I found a good groove early in the race, but I couldn't get a rhythm going," Hoffman told the crowd after scoring his first win at New Egypt.
Sinking Spring, PA's Keith Brightbill scored back-to-back wins in Sportsman feature racing. Tom Eppolite was second, followed by Larry Archer, Jack Swain and Kenny Roth. Brightbill also won the Dash for Cash for an additional $416.
It was a three-peat in Street Stock action as Brick, NJ's Ralph Gargiulo took his third straight win of the season, with Mike Nixon, Richie Byrne, Bill Bauma and George Quinlan following him to the flag.
Tim Burke, Upper Black Eddy, PA, took the lead from Lewie Parker with two laps to go en route to his second Rookie win of the early season. Tom Tomasko, John Dixon and Scott Reid completed the top five.
The 50/50 drawing was worth $1,714.50 to one lucky fan, as a good crowd again braved chilly temperatures. The Modified headliners go at it again next Saturday night, April 24, with Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies also on the bill. Gates open at 3 p.m. with warm-ups at 4:30 and the first green flag being waved at 5:30. Adult admission is $12. Children 7-12 are $4, and 6 and under are admitted free.
