New Egypt, NJ (July 22) -- After waging a spirited duel with race leader Tim Tanner Jr. for several laps, Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch made a daring, turn 4 move to steal the checkered flag, scoring his ninth Modified feature win of the season on Ladies' Night at New Egypt Speedway.

Tanner Jr. led the field in the early going with Rocco Infante giving chase. The top two battled through the first half of the 30-lap main, while Pauch picked his way to the front. Pauch bested Infante for second on lap 17, then waged a doorhandle-to-doorhandle battle with the leader, bringing the crowd to its feet. Pauch took the point on lap 23, and there was no looking back. Tanner Jr. was second, with Keith Hoffman third, Steve Moss fourth and Bob Worthington fifth.

New Egypt's own Ron John Koczon notched his fourth win this season in the Sportsman event. Koczon grabbed the lead from Paul Marra Sr. at the halfway flags and stayed out front for the victory. Matt Papiez, Ryan Godown, Marra and Scott Reid finished behind Koczon.

Waterford, NJ's Bill Gerber came from deep in the pack for win #3 on the year in the Street Stock feature. Carol Whitehouse and Pat Freiberger waged a side-by-side battle for the lead in the early circuits until Gerber's outside run placed him out front on lap 10. George Quinlan, Whitehouse, Al Cheney III and Freiberger trailed the leader at the flags.

Winners of the OfficeMates 5 of Englewood Cliffs Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature event were Pauch (Mods, 15.285), Koczon (Sportsman, 16.293) and Gerber (Street Stock, 17.245).

A total of 41 women took the wheel to participate in special Powder Puff events on Ladies' Night. Taking the trophies and the cash in the four races were Brenda Pickell (Modified), Gina Reutter and Nancy Leach (Sportsman), and Kim McVay (Street Stock). In addition, each participant received a personalized framed certificate from the speedway.

This Saturday, July 29, it's Art's Radiator Night at New Egypt Speedway with the Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks on the bill. Sportsman will compete in a 25-lap event for double points and the Street Stocks will see action in two races, one a rain-out from June 17. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4, and kids 6 and under are free.
